IP
has become the most commonly used protocols nowadays for all kinds of
networks. Almost every kind of network enabled device must be supplied
with an IP Address, with the implementation of voice over IP,
organizations have experienced an exponential growth in the number of
IP enabled devices on their networks. Previously, enterprises had few
reasonable product choices for managing
DNS and DHCP, and many network managers chose to write scripts or use
spreadsheets to manage their IP address spaces.
Genesys Technologies provides IPAM (IP Address Management) products combined with DNS and DHCP services (DDI). DNS and DHCP services are embedded as no-cost or low-cost options by many software and hardware manufacturers, but such an implementation lacks the centralized control, stability and control that can be gained by implementing a DDI Solution. Some Notes about IPAM and DDI IPAM stands for IP Address Management. The commonly used DNS and DHCP services from Microsoft and the open source Bind solution lack IPAM functionality. IPAM provides a range of capabilities for controlling, automating and managing the domain name and address space, and offers a significant improvement over spreadsheets and most homegrown address management applications. DDI stands for the sum of DHCP, DNS and IPAM in one solution. DDI provides centralized control over the IP address infrastructure. DDI also provides the means to decrese tensions between the team responsible for these services and the team responsible for managing the server platforms. The primary benefit between bundled and comercial DNS and DHCP solutions is that Commercial DDI solutions help stabilize DNS and DHCP infrastructure with improved reliability and availability features such as high availability and enhanced security.
